General Minister Tibor Kauser, OFS, is echoing Pope Francis’s call for prayers for peace in Ukraine. “I invite you dear brothers and sisters, to strengthen our unity with each other, with the whole Franciscan family and with the Catholic Church by joining the prayer of Pope Francis for peace on Ash Wednesday,” he said.
“Peace is not a ceasefire. Peace is not a silence of arms. Peace is a gift of God. As such it is given by God for free, but we have to be active to have it,” the general minister said. Read the complete text of his call for prayer.
Our brother and General Minister Tibor Kauser has given us a message that is deep in wisdom and insight. I intend to reflect on it often this Lent and let it guide my path to peace, that peace that only God can give. It is easy to pray with sympathy for the innocent victims of war and very hard to pray ‘for those who know not what they do’…but that is what is necessary for us to move along God’s path toward peace.
The resolution to any conflict always appears imperfect and I will support imperfect solutions. But our brother Tibor has grasped the spiritual heart of the matter, “Peace is that I am content with what I have, because I have God in my heart and it is enough.”. As Francis would say: “My God and my all”. Let us do what our General Minister and Pope have asked us to do. Pray for peace, work for peace, and truly live in peace!
Thank you Tibor. In Australia we are praying for the intercession of St Agnes of Prague who is credited with the collapse of communism in her own country. God bless you in all you do.
Dear Tibor,
Your words moved my spirit. Thank you for expressing so well so many emotions I am feeling. Please know that parts of your well expressed message made it into the re-write of my homily for the 8th Sunday in Ordinary Time. May God continue to bless the good work you and the International Council do on behalf of our beloved Order.
May the Lord give you peace,
Terry
